two tough beats in the pick 6 this week. no carryover means no play for me, but here's some straight spot plays from hp.
r1: royal moro. this one is probably going to go favored, and if he does, don't play him, but at 2/1 or better, he's a good gamble. the little gelding can sure motor and h'es in the best form of his life. the key to the race is if anyone can run with way to the top (who is bred to route and remarkably at age 5 has never gone a route of ground???). if hotel hall or proceed with care keep 'top busy, look for the grey 'moro to come a calling inside the 16th pole.
r5: marshall rooster. a full field of loaded turfers go a mile in here. 'rooster got the worst of the draw in the 10 hole, but his lack of early speed means nakatani will try to take back and avoid going 5 wide into the first turn. full fields like this on the turf generally means that racing luck will play a huge part in who poses for pictures, which is why you have to demand a price on your selection. on closer inspection of this race, there is surprisingly little speed in here with only a few of thee actually on the lead in their last races. so, follow me, here, if they go slow up front, it is less likely that the frontrunners will tire at the top of the stretch b/c it will be jog jog jog and then an all out sprint for home. so, finding a hole at the rail or a split between horses will be hard to do for the come from behinders, which is why you'll probably see 6 or 7 across the track at the top of the lane. who has the best kick? i know it's the 'rooster, but corey will probably have this one way wide turning for home (which is the way it should be- as opposed to valdivia, who takes his mounts wide no matter what as though he was riding val royal every time...). anyway, i think the rooster will be a decent price and we'll get a thrill b/c he'll be flying at 'em late. van rouge, golden rahy, golden arrow, and thundermann all rate looks, but at 6/1 or better, i'm rolling the dice with the rooster.
r9: cruzenwiththestars. backed this one last time first out for o'neill and now he figures to run much better second time for pval. he should speed and faded and now drops to the bottom. gate to wire under pval?
good luck all.
